Forum Functionality

This thread will host discussion on the construction, modification, and improvement of the forum itself. I'll post here as stuff is tweaked and changed, and any suggestions, questions, requests, feedback, et cetera can be voiced here as well.

At the moment, my pet project is improving the chatbox. It's no longer at the top of the homepage, but rather appears as a box in the lower-right corner on all pages. I'm trying to add sound and/or visual notifications of some kind, which is proving to be nine kinds of difficult, but I'll update when I make some sort of headway. I've also been tasked with adding the ability for people to change the color of their avatar names.

Does anyone have any others ideas or suggestions for how the forum might be improved?

There's a little plus sign and minus sign on the right side of each post. They don't appear on your own, so you can't upvote yourself.

REGARDING THE CHATBOX

It now exists as a pop-up icon in the lower-right of all pages, rather than at the top or bottom of the homepage. Opening this and then clicking the word "Chatbox" in the upper corner will bring up a standalone window that will remain open even when you go to different pages on the site, which beats the hell out of having to re-open it every time.
